The funny thing is that he probably would have caught a lot more heat for the gun thing had the Republican-dominated Supreme Court not handed down that absurd Bruen judgement last year.

All the stuff Hunter Biden was allegedly involved in!
"We know that Hunter Biden's firm, backed by the Chinese government, invested in a company that was actively stealing nuclear secrets from the United States. We know that China has been consistent in its efforts to acquire U.S. technology, and that their spies have been caught trying to steal our nuclear technology."

Reuters has reported that BHR also invested in China General Nuclear Power Corp, a state-owned company. The company employed a naturalized U.S. citizen and nuclear engineer, Allen Ho, who was indicted in the United States in 2016 for allegedly enlisting U.S.-based nuclear experts to assist in developing and producing special nuclear material in China. "Prosecuting those who unlawfully facilitate the acquisition of sensitive nuclear technology by foreign nations continues to be a top priority of the National Security Division," the Justice Department said its news release about Ho’s sentencing to 24 months in prison.

"We know that Hunter Biden's firm bought a company that provides dual-use technologies for the Chinese military."

The Henniges Automotive deal was done in concert with AVIC, an aviation company that is involved in both military and commercial markets.

"We know that global powers have tried to stop China from monopolizing the world's mineral resources. And we know that Hunter Biden's firm bought a company that actually helped China in its competition with the United States for mineral resources."

The mining deal involved the takeover of a mine that produces significant amounts of cobalt, which technically isn’t a rare-earth element but which is considered a critical mineral by the U.S. government, along with niobium, another commodity produced by the Chinese mining company.

The film acknowledges that the Obama administration was fighting China over rare-earth minerals at the time, which is the opposite of Biden steering U.S. policy towards his son’s benefit.

"Fox digital" source claims 5 million of Chinese money. No other sources back this number.
On Aug. 4, 2017, Chinese firm CEFC Infrastructure Investment wired $100,000 to Hunter Biden’s law firm Owasco, according to a 2020 report published by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Then, days later on Aug. 8, 2017, CEFC Infrastructure Investment sent $5 million to Hudson West III, a firm Hunter Biden opened with Chinese associates.

The two transactions totaling $5.1 million came within 10 days of messages uncovered Thursday by the House Ways and Means Committee. In the messages — shared to the panel via IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley Jr., who oversaw the agency's probe into Hunter Biden — Hunter Biden blasted business partner Henry Zhao for not fulfilling his "commitment" and said his father was with him.

Gary Shapley is still with the gov't. Previous whistleblower unknown.

Whistleblower was denied prescious laptop!
As the investigation continued under the Biden Justice Department, Shapley recounts that agents were not given access to the Biden laptop evidence and were prevented by Wolf and the Tax Division from conducting interviews with essential witnesses. Eventually, the Justice Department had the entire IRS team removed from the probe over its
complaints about the preferential treatment accorded the president’s son. Shapley says DOJ has also developed a sudden interest in collecting years of his email correspondence documenting investigative irregularities.

In the course of this dithering, the statute of limitations lapsed on key charges. Investigators had gathered proof that Hunter Biden failed to register as a foreign agent for Burisma, the corrupt Ukrainian energy company that put him on its board while his father was running point on Obama administration Ukraine policy. In addition, in 2014 and 2015, he evaded taxes on his lavish Burisma income. Such charges should have been the backbone of any tax and corruption prosecution against Biden; now they are time-barred.

Poor Trump. Could not get IRS and DOJ to investigate Bidens:

Investigators say they were blocked from searching Joe Biden’s property, interviewing Biden’s relatives: Shapley alleged that Wolf declined to pursue a search warrant at a guest house used by Hunter Biden on his father’s Delaware property, citing “optics” and the difficulty of getting approval.

The investigators said that they normally would have interviewed Hunter Biden relatives who received money from him or may have used his credit cards, including his children, but were blocked from doing so.

Not on precisely the same issue, but a contrary perspective to the general statement:

'Attorney General Merrick Garland Was Actually Pretty Harsh on Hunter Biden'
Cue the outrage from former President Donald Trump and his allies over the just announced Hunter Biden plea deal.

Of course, no one really expected Trump and his supporters to ever be satisfied with any outcome of the long-running Hunter Biden investigation that did not result in a conviction of his father, President Joe Biden.

But the truth of the matter is that Attorney General Merrick Garland did Hunter Biden no favors in this case by leaving the original Trump-appointed prosecutor on the case, and approving a plea deal on charges that for anyone else would likely have resulted in no criminal charges being brought.

DOJ opened the investigation into Hunter Biden some five years ago—which is a remarkably long time to investigate and prosecute a tax evasion case involving about $1.2 million and a false statement about being a drug user. The investigation was opened by Trump’s Justice Department in 2018 and overseen by the original Trump-appointed United States Attorney for Delaware, David Weiss, whom Attorney General Garland left in place despite the fact that new attorney generals typically ask for the resignations of U.S. Attorneys appointed in the previous administration.

The AG’s decision to keep Weiss in place likely was Garland’s effort to show the public that no politics would affect the investigation. The immediate reaction by such political leaders, such as House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, makes plain that Garland miscalculated his ability to blunt Republican attacks on the DOJ.

...

So the result of this five-year long investigation is that a recovering drug addict who paid his taxes late and lied about using drugs to purchase a firearm will be convicted of tax evasion, and be given pre-trial diversion for lying on his gun ownership application. It is likely that any other drug addict who was not the son of a sitting president would not have been prosecuted for these charges.

But AG Merrick Garland—ever sensitive to accusations of DOJ looking political—kept the original prosecutor on the case to insulate DOJ from accusations of political partisanship, and refused to exercise what could easily be considered reasonable prosecutorial discretion in refusing to bring criminal charges for such minor offenses.

As usual, Garland’s efforts to avoid political backlash are doomed to failure.

Yeah, no. That’s slimy. A lot of rich guy crimes don’t result in jail for the rich. Why should the average American be convinced justice has been done when tax evasion does less damage to your future than running out of a Walmart with a bag of diapers?

Crackhead Hunter was high! He was just imagining Joe there.
CNN

President Joe Biden on Wednesday emphatically denied that he was involved or present when his son Hunter Biden is alleged to have texted a Chinese business partner in 2017, claiming that he was sitting with his father.

Asked whether he was involved in the business dealings or was sitting with Hunter when the message was sent, Biden told reporters Wednesday, “No. I wasn’t.”

Asked again, Biden replied more forcefully, “No.”

he questions referred to a portion of the testimony in which a IRS supervisor-turned-whistleblower told House lawmakers that Justice Department prosecutors denied requests to look into messages allegedly from Hunter Biden where he used his father as leverage to pressure a Chinese company into paying him.

“I am sitting here with my father and we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled,” according to testimony the whistleblower gave to Congress, which quotes from texts that are allegedly from Hunter Biden to the CEO of a Chinese fund management company.

The message continues: “Tell the director that I would like to resolve this now before it gets out of hand. And now means tonight.” The message goes onto say, “I will make certain that between the man sitting next to me and every person he knows and my ability to forever hold a grudge that you will regret not following my direction. I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father.”

The second, unnamed IRS whistleblower also testified to lawmakers about this alleged WhatsApp message, saying prosecutors questioned whether they could be sure Hunter Biden was telling the truth that his father was actually in the room in the messages. The unnamed whistleblower testified that they did not know whether the FBI investigated the message.
