A recession is on its way. But don't join Trump in blaming the Fed. The real problem is Trump himself: His tax cut for corporations and the wealthy -- almost exactly a year old -- were frittered away as corporations used their tax savings to buy back their own shares of stock, and the wealthy used theirs to gamble in the stock market. These steroids wore off as soon as the spending stopped. The rest of us are left holding the bag of a giant deficit.

And Trump's trade war with China is causing the entire global economy to quake. No surprise there, either. When the largest and second-largest economies in the world collide, the losses are huge.

No, the Fed isn't doing this. Trump is. He took the credit for the stock market boom. The odds he’ll accept responsibility for the bust are zero.

It would be refreshing if he would accept some responsibility, but I have yet to see a President say that his policies were responsible for anything negative. It's not as if Trump is alone in that regard.

That said, it is his and Congress' responsibility and the GOP has had the Presidency and Congress for 2 years now, and so they do bear responsibility for what's happening now. It's not at all clear that a "recession" is coming, and I hope one isn't. Unlike some, I don't express - now or years ago -- glee over an economic downturn, even if it would hurt my political opponents. I want the country to do well.

This is a big test for Trump. He needs to react to the economic indicators and do what's necessary to boost the economy. Something new to help heavy industry and American business in 2019 would be a good idea.

If we do hit a recession that isn't turned around by around June of 2020, then he's toast and will not be reelected under any circumstances. He might not be reelected even if the economy is doing well, but he certainly won't if the economy is crap. That was his whole promise - that he would make the economy hum and GDP would grow at 4% range - if we hit a recession -- then he's fucked.

"Lemmy" (which I had seen some others nicknaming him/her) - after I was lambasted for that sin, I apologized and I have since only used the full name. Anyway, Forty Two, I think it was an AWESOME lesson in respect, which Hermit just taught me. I know just how he respects others, and if he ever expresses that he feels disrespected, I'll think back to this lesson.

Of course, Socialmedia Justice Warriors have made it cool to dig up anything from someone's past to use as a way to discredit them. I don't think it's right, but then again, I used to post in a place lovingly referred to as 'feral off topic', and would (for myself) not want quotes dug out of there to define me as a person.

Of course, none of those digging up the past are in that kind of danger (from old jokes/opinions/banter) because they have ever been full of it (respect, I mean)
