Some (our own Scot Dutchy among them) think the numbers are a bit squiffy.
Just about everyone sees problems with the statistics that are made available. For example, it can be difficult to work out if someone who had, say, bronchitis died from the Covid virus, or if that person just happened to suffer from bronchitis when the effects of the Covid virus killed him/her. Not everyone who dies in places other than a hospital is counted, nor are people who die before they are diagnosed as Covid positive. Most countries cannot even give an accurate number of people infected because so few are tested. That naturally makes both the infectiousness and the fatality rates no better than an educated guess with a possibly overgenerous error margin.
So if Trump's plan produces faster, cheaper and more useful tests, he will have empowered US private sector to make the world better.
Yes. Definitely. That will be a positive achievement.

If.

And he'll not make up the losses caused by several weeks of inactivity. I don't suppose you read the list of quotes of his demonstrating his interminable procrastinations, prevarications and delaying tactics, even after two reports had landed on his desk (the first one about mid-December) warning him of what was about to hit the country.

UK: 950,000 apply for universal credit in two weeks of UK lockdown.

That's quite a big number, considering there were 2.5m people in receipt of universal credit in December 2019 - many of whom were also in low paid and/or insecure employment.

Governor just signed a stay at home order. Pain in the ass but since the covidiots won't obey simple rules we all have to stay in from recess and put our heads down on our desks. Stupid fucking ground apes.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I'm going run. Guess I'm one of the stupid ground apes, but my government hasn't attempted to limit solo old dudes thumping through the bush.

Maybe no-one gives a shit. People tend to stay away from me anyway.

Just had a message from my son whose UK company has a branch in Oz. It's the approaching flu season there and there is a huge drive for flu jabs. The idea being that if one catches flu it will weaken the immune system thereby making any COVID-19 infection worse. Obviously, a flu jab wont stop the virus but it may alleviate the symptoms and illness. :dunno:

If so, this leads me to wonder if any study has been done wrt flu jabs and resulting severity of illness (even death) due to COVID-19?

Why does the Netherlands have a peak after the weekend? All case reports are sent to the RIVM (State Institute for the Environment) on Sunday evening for the whole weekend including Friday. Those appear on the table on Monday or Tuesday. There are just so many wobbles. You even have to suspect certain countries. Mexico is one; Mexico City has 25,million plus inhabitants of which 6 million are migrant workers travelling in and out of the city every day.. The country is reporting 1200 cases and 29 deaths. If you know the place you realise it does not add up like so many third world countries.
That's because they are barely testing.

There is a case here. Another a thousand kilometers north. Nice to have a bit of buffer.

Yeah, I've never been one anyway.

The crazies in Texas have demanded they be allowed to go to church. Fine. But let that be a criteria should we have to decide who gets ventilators. Any man over 30 who likely contracted the virus in church has to rely on god.
