Clearly we can't have anyone in the Shadow Cabinet whose opinions differ from those of the Dear Leader.

Sarah Champion quits Labour front bench over rape article

Labour shadow minister Sarah Champion has quit the party's front bench after criticism over a newspaper article she wrote about grooming gangs.

The Rotherham MP wrote in The Sun that "Britain has a problem with British Pakistani men raping and exploiting white girls".

She has now apologised for her "extremely poor choice of words" and quit as shadow equalities minister.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said he had accepted her resignation.

Ms Champion's article was written after 17 men were convicted of forcing girls in Newcastle to have sex.

Mostly British-born, they are from Iraqi, Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian, Iranian and Turkish communities.

In interviews following the convictions, the Labour MP said such crimes involved "predominately Pakistani men" and said a fear of being called racist was hampering the authorities' investigations.

She then penned the Sun article, which also included the line: "These people are predators and the common denominator is their ethnic heritage."

She would fit right in over at R*tSk*p, where they love to indulge in similar racism against Pakistani men.

Why did she single out Pakis rather than say Muslim? Seems like racism to avoid racism? I'm not a expert on these matters legalistically or neo-marxist doctrine regarding race/religion and so forth...doesn't make any sense to me when you can avoid direct racism by attacking a delusional religious belief system though.

Its a case of not winning whichever way you go. Of late the media and politicians have suggested that the fear of being labelled as racist has meant these guys have gotten away with widespread and sometimes brutal abuse. Nobody has been prepared to call this phenomenon what is is - large scale exploitation of teenage girls mostly by Pakistani or other southern Asian men, the majority of who are also Muslims. That's exactly what these guys were. No ifs or buts. If you add to that the contempt and hypocrisy they displayed - feeling free to exploit these 'loose' girls while keeping their own women locked away - well it is pretty damning.

Sarah Champion probably felt safe given the obvious facts of the matter however PC is so deeply entrenched in the Labour party facts don't much matter if someone decides to get offended.

A significant section of the left avoids criticising Islam lest it be accused of racism or unintentionally aid racists. Facts are:

1) As a religious doctrine with overt social influences Islam thoroughly deserves unstinting condemnation and repudiation.

2) Such criticisms cannot possibly racist in nature unless one lumps Arabic, Bengali, Urdu, Punjabi, Malay, Javanese, Sundanese, Swahili, Hausa, Fula, Berber, Tuareg, Somali, Albanian, Spanish, Bosnian, Russian, Turkish, Azeri, Kazakh, Uzbek, Tatar, Persian, Kurdish, Pashto, Balochi, Sindhi, Kashmiri and many other ethnicities into the same bucket.

Traditionally Islam is associated with Arabs. Few people realise that the numerically largest ethnic grouping of Muslims lives in Indonesia. 87% of the 260 million Indonesians are Muslims and most of them are ethnically descendants of Austronesians who are thought to have wandered south from the region now known as Taiwan.

What I really meant is whether a particular subset of Muslims (e.g. but not necessarily Pakistanis) may have some additional cultural factors which make the behaviour more likely...

And having said that, it will still be only a particularly nasty minority of whatever group we designate that allow themselves to behave in that way - it is clearly not an automatic group feature...
