The number of casualties is not a measure of whether a war is 'won' or not.
Iraq is a war that changed. Total casualties over a million, since most casualties were Iraqi. The war is still going on in the form of urban guerilla actions. The 'enemy' is now a government seen to be carrying out the will of the USA.

That is nowhere close to the truth. First, well over a million Iraqi casualties? Not substantiated. Any such figure includes Iraqis dying of traffic accidents during the war, etc.

More importantly it includes Iraqi fratricide, meaning the inclusion of Iraqis killed by other Iraqis in terror bombings, kidnappings and murders, which comprise the vast majority of civilian casualties in Iraq.

How do you know it was someone from within the group? You've said some flat out seditious things on RD.net and ratskep. I'd be pretty sure they'd be keeping an eye via google searches on certain phrases and words. You've only got yourself to blame.

No one knows for sure, since records were sparse. The lowest estimate, which I am sure you are quoting, came from the US military (surprise, surprise), who simply counted bodies. This ignored the simple fact that most of those who died either were not recovered, or had their bodies picked up by family members and taken away for immediate burial, as per Muslim custom.

There are many other estimates, which are based on surveys. The technique is to carry out a random sampling, interviewing families and finding out how many lost a family member, and then multiplying it through to get an overall figure. Obviously, not 100% accurate, but a lot better than the US military method.

The latest such estimate suggested 1.2 million, which is more or less what I quoted. It may or may not be accurate, and it has its critics. But we can be sure that the true number was much, much higher than what you think.

The sites that discuss this FBI cookie are basically 'liberty' ones ie terrorist ones, so quite obviously anyone who goes to them is likely to end up tracked (including me I guess now)

I don't agree with those numbers, because dying during a war is not the same as being a casualty of the war.

However, in any case, it has nothing to do with whether the US won, which the US and the coalition allies clearly did -- the invasion, the aftermath, the rebuilding -- all successful.
