The Japanese have sculptured their land for over 2,000 years. So when the waves got over the shoreline they found a table-flat series of fields waiting for them. The waves went inland for six miles in some places, according to CNN.

The bullshit starts flying, and I'm not even referring to the "It's our god thingy's punishment" nutters. From The Vancouver Sun: "Earth's axis has reportedly shifted ten inches as a result of the quake, and Japan's coast is said to have permanently shifted 2.4 metres."

Yeah, "reportedly" and "said to" are the only sources cited. I don't believe any of it. It'll make for a lot of "Wow! Amazing" type comments during smokos all over the world, though.
