evil government tracking Covid! Can't have that
How would you score the world’s response to the pandemic?
It’s very difficult to give a fair [answer], because when you’re dealing with a virus as formidable as this, you are going to get deaths. But the global community, including the United States, certainly could have done better. The one success story has been the rapid development and deployment of vaccines. What has not been as successful is the public-health response. Take this country as an example. Over the decades, we have let our public-health system atrophy [by] not replacing people who leave, not keeping the equipment up to date, not getting [information] accessible in real time. We’ve had to go to other countries to get real-time information: the UK, Israel, South Africa. Whereas in our system of reporting, the states don’t have to report to the CDC [US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention] — the CDC has to ask them to participate in the response. That really has got to change.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
It is never mentioned here in this country. Strange that. We did well enough in vaccinations. We have totally no restrictions. We dont do testing only personal if you want it.Tero wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 11:44 amhttps://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-022-04432-7

You would trust those countries for real accurate data. Zuid-Afrika? one of the most corrupted countries in the world along with UK and Israel? Have you really lost it? The UK is so corrupt on that fact alone it would never be allowed back in the EU.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Well you DO have about the same population density as China.
The problem with Covid response here was small towns ignoring it. But our worst spread was in medium size towns with a meat packing plants. Example of this smallish city. the Covid cases and deaths per 1000 were several fold compared to those of our two real cities.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
China was using Covid to control its population. That was definitely not the case here. Vaccination was taken very seriously but the restrictions not especially when figures fell. We expected a fourth or fifth wave but it never came after that the one finger salute was given to mask wearing and distance keeping. Any talk of any restrictions have met the same reply. Say its Dutch arrogance if you want but we have had one of the highest vaccination take ups and the thought of even putting on a mask is met with total rejection even in the hospitals. I think it is about information. Plenty thought one vaccination was enough when in fact experience says about 5 for all ages.Tero wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 2:12 pmWell you DO have about the same population density as China.

A lot has been learnt this time around. Speed and numbers are the game. There should not be any costs involved either.

CHina doesn't need Covid to control its population.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
In fact, recent events have the Chinese government backing off from some Covid restrictions, as riots and dissent showed that they were pushing at the edge of what control that can practically exert...

I would give Scot the benefit of the doubt here, and assume he really meant "the Chinese government", criticism of which is of course not racist...rainbow wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 9:43 pmDutch racial generalisations are by far the best.Scot Dutchy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 8:58 pmI agree Jim.
