BERLIN (Reuters) – A man lost 23,000 euros ($31,180) to the wind when an envelope with the money he had stuck in the passenger seat pocket of his convertible blew away during a test drive in northern Germany.
The cash -- in 500, 200, and 100 euro notes -- fluttered across the motorway in the midst of speeding traffic near the city of Hanover, police said.
The man, 23, contacted police immediately, who then blocked the motorway in both directions for nearly half an hour. Eight police officers assisted the man in retrieving his notes and were able to recover 20,000 euros.
"The remaining 3,000 euros have not been found," a police spokeswoman said, but warned treasure hunters of searching for any bills and keeping them, saying that was illegal.

It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

Incidents like this are the reason most of us choose to use checks or credit/debit cards for larger transactions. I do hope the fool is smart enough to feel like an idiot.

I feel sorry for him. I'd still pocket his cash if I found it lying in the road though.

Re: What a Dick - Loses His Cash
Wish I could say the same. Unfortunately, I've learned I'm filled to the brim with honourable bullshit as I've discovered large sums of money before. I went to extravagent lengths to find the owner before investing my new funds in a lovely pair of big, shiny boots. Still feel sort of guilty about it, but hey, I'm no private detective and my search was hindered by the fact that saying I'd found a large sum of money would likely result in a claim by someone other than the rightful owner. I gave them three days to retrace their steps and made sure the people where I'd found the money knew how to contact me if the owner showed up, though. I really needed new footwear.ghost wrote:I feel sorry for him. I'd still pocket his cash if I found it lying in the road though.

I found a big fat wallet stacked full of cash a few years back. And like an idiot I tracked down the owner and gave it back to him. He grunted some kind of "thanks" and went on his way.

Re: What a Dick - Loses His Cash
That was fortunate. The cash I found wasn't in a wallet, so I had no means of tracking down the owner and had to rely upon their ability to retrace their steps. Ultimately, that aproach failed.pawiz wrote:I found a big fat wallet stacked full of cash a few years back. And like an idiot I tracked down the owner and gave it back to him. People are assholes. We don't do nice things for them. We do nice things for ourselves. How can we be the hero in our personal narative if we're dicks?

Re: What a Dick - Loses His Cash
If I found a wallet or something that could be used to identify the owner I would give it back. But loose cash lying on the ground is fair game IMO. Obviously not if you see the person drop it, but other than that, its finders keepers.
