The coalition strikes again...

For the sake of 'balance'. How can a lobby group such as Life occupy a place on such a forum that promotes sexual health when they have no policy or genuine ideas on how to encourage it, anyway? To date the only thing they've achieved in lying about efficient forms of contraception, and endorsing Catholic dogma.

I had a feeling this was going to start happening.... I expect to see some strengthening of Christian values bollocks going on soon too.

The whole article is full of FAIL :fp:
In Richmond, south-west London, the Catholic Children's Society has taken over the £89,000 contract to provide advice to schoolchildren on matters including contraception and pregnancies.
:o
Men! They're all beasts!
Yeah. But isn't it wonderful?

Ha! Prods owned.
Libertarianism: The belief that out of all the terrible things governments can do, helping people is the absolute worst.

ASININE! :react:

Scratch that - I think we know (or have a shrewd guess) why. How can this be fought?

The truth of the matter is that this is not only reactionary and conservative (big and little 'C') but it is dangerous and harmful. Young people will have sex whether they have access to proper contraception or not and the UK already has one of the highest rates of teenage pregnancy (actually it it the actual highest from memory) in Europe. Making it harder to get decent advice and contraception will only result in more STDs and pregnancies. The Conservatives want to change societal values.

Governments have never managed to do that and they should have learnt that by now.

What I don't understand is that so many conservatives present their ideology as "pragmatic", yet time and time again they push policies that are based on "people SHOULD (not) behave like X, to avoid not-so-good consequence(s), and if they don't, they should be thoroughly punished." The truly pragmatic approach IMO - at least when we are talking about actions that are victimless - is more like "a large enough group of people DO behave like X (and have been doing so for centuries/millennia, whatever the society says or does), which leads to not-so-good consequence(s) - how can we limit those consequences?"

Damned Catholic atheists... :nono:

Anyway, the role of conservative parties is to go all King Canute on the zeitgeist, so let's not get too surprised...
