The incident took place in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. I've been there. It's a decent looking tourist town, lots of restaurants and bars, and lots of touristy stores.

From the story, the husband got mad when some other guy tried to pick up on his wife, the victim. A fight ensued. That's mistake number one. You're in Mexico, and you're a foreigner. Their laws make Arizona's proposed "reasonable suspicion, check your citizenship" laws look like child's play. The article has the guy explaining that he thinks it's his duty to protest when law enforcement oversteps its bounds. That seems to be mistake number 2 - thinking that Mexican police are like Canadian police...

So, we have police responding to a fight between gringos. At least one gringo is lipping off and claiming the police are overstepping their authority.

Yeesh... I feel terrible for this woman. She has hired a lawyer and is stating that she'll not let it go. i'm not sure, though, that that's her best move. She may want to just let it go...Mexico is no joke, and these fellas she's dealing with may not have a problem taking care of business....
