Yeah, but if it is a private club then what right does the government have to tell them they have to either be 0% or 100% exclusive? Why can't they be 80% exclusive?
Idk if you read the article, but it does make some sense. The legislation will outlaw practices like clubs having members of both sexes but having restrictions on what one sex is allowed to do, which is clear discrimination. But I also agree that a private members club shouldn't be forced to do anything like this really... members agree to the rules when they sign up. They don't have to be members if they don't want to be.
The article suggests it it to do with upper class establishments, but there are loads of single-sex working men's clubs in the UK too. Though most of them allow female guests in certain capacities (not usually in the bar though).
