Re: Converts plastic to oil
I'd take the extra oil in return for getting rid of some of the masses of plastic waste, especially the stuff that floats around on ocean currents and causes such environmental damage.RuleBritannia wrote:Yeah, 'cause what we need is more oil.
Anyway, the "benefit" of the oil produced by any such process would have to be offset against the energy required to produce it in the first place.

Re: Converts plastic to oil
breaking down all those long chain molecules into shorter ones just to burn them is a waste of energy , better to reuse them in new plastics .

I would have thought it was much better to just melt the plastic and recycle it as plastic. If you convert all old plastic into oil and then burn it, when we run out of oil, we'll also run out of plastic. And this is putting more carbon into the atmosphere rather than keeping it in a solid state where it's actually quite useful.

Re: Converts plastic to oil
Isn't plastic made from oil? Maybe we should just reduce the amount of plastic we make?

Yes , but once it's made it should be recycled as much as possible , and this is an inefficient system for making a fossil fuel and increasing the carbon foot print of a plastic product .maiforpeace wrote:Isn't plastic made from oil? Maybe we should just reduce the amount of plastic we make?

I guess I was wrong. I thought it was a great idea to cut down on trash.

Do you have good recycle programs there? One thing that I found disappointing in the South was the lack of public recycling - most of our public trashcans here in CA have a separate section for recyclables.kiki5711 wrote:I guess I was wrong. I thought it was a great idea to cut down on trash.

they have some recycling here but not as good what we had in New York city. In NY we had 4 different types of garbage pick ups. general trash, cans, plastic, paper.
