Giving aid to Pakistan - cash or prayers?

Post by Santa_Claus » Thu Aug 19, 2010 9:15 pm

or f#ck all?

I would have thought the natural place to appeal for aid would be to a nearby country used to dealing with Monsoon related rain - like India. As no mention of Pakistan asking for help from India I figure can't be that serious.

Or could be that cash is better as can't put the use of 500 indian helicopters for a few months into a Swiss bank account.

Or that the Pakistani's and Indian's hate each other and by asking India for help, Pakistan would be admitting to inferiority. They're like an old, bitter couple. It's pathetic.

But if it was that serious they would swallow their pride (after all, India has more Muslims than Pakistan) - but apparently only serious enough to ask for cash from the west.

The other countries all hope they don't get asked and the torch goes to America. They probably say to themselves, hey, they put their nose in everything, ask them!

America is holding the torch - so far we are the ones providing the bulk of the aid.

Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

I'm under no illusions what the cost of the two wars are and have been against both of them from the start. What does that have to do with giving aid to pakistan?

It's also a cost of war?

We kind of have to stay on Pakistan's good side as long as we're using bases there.

You're right. The floods will have a big impact on the security of Pakistan, or a significant impact in influencing the war in Afghanistan - so it is a national security issue for us.

They're still asking for help? I thought they'd all be dead right now.

Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.
