People of my generation are far more politically literate than our elders give us credit for: I have friends of varying ages and education who can all make sound assessments of policy and can engage in political discussion. As for a Golden Age, well it's just nostalgia isn't it; most people look back fondly on their youth, emphasising the positives and ignoring the negatives (As I pointed out, sexism, sectarianism and racism were all rife, or at least far more prevalent, back in the mid-20th century) - I imagine that in 50 years I'll be telling people how good things were back in 2010 when things now are actually shite :dono:
People talk about how the Government is encroaching on personal life - well I'm sorry, but that's bullshit. You're inviting them in. People talk about the civil rights movement as if it were part of some golden age - again, bullshit, it was an age of unrest and turmoil, where they had to reach a point where it was a serious threat to stability not to give them these rights, a stability they needed during the Cold War, and the Vietnam war.

You want a golden age? Today. Today, our civil rights movements are about marriage and about adoption, not about segregation and voting. People complain about the Government encroaching on our private lives, when today it is no longer illegal to be homosexual, where the Government recognises and supports de facto relationships, where things like religion and ethnicity are required by law to be considered irrelevant to employment.
