A shame perhaps but Britain is about 91% white isn't it? The distortion really isn't that much.RuleBritannia wrote:...96% of the cabinet is white, only one person isn't, Baroness Warsi, who is a "Minister without Portfolio", so doesn't even head a department...

Re: The UK election thread
As a member of the Labour party, I'm getting emails from the leadership candidates now. I haven't decided who to vote for yet but I'm erring towards a "Millibrother". Anyone else have any preferences so far?

Re: The UK election thread
Are any of them planning to take Labour back to the left, where they belong? Because that would be my preference - it would at least give people a meaningful choice at the next election.Flora wrote:As a member of the Labour party, I'm getting emails from the leadership candidates now. [Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

Diane Abott seems the most left wing to me (I'm definitely not voting for her as she doesn't have the ability to lead the party IMO)Psychoserenity wrote:Are any of them planning to take Labour back to the left, where they belong? It's really come to something that the most left-wing candidate in a Labour election battle is a woman who sent her kids off to a private fee-paying school.Flora wrote:Diane Abott seems the most left wing to me (I'm definitely not voting for her as she doesn't have the ability to lead the party IMO)Psychoserenity wrote:Are any of them planning to take Labour back to the left, where they belong? Real socialists don't seek power, thus are not politicians.Horwood Beer-Master wrote:It's really come to something that the most left-wing candidate in a Labour election battle is a woman who sent her kids off to a private fee-paying school.Flora wrote:Diane Abott seems the most left wing to me (I'm definitely not voting for her as she doesn't have the ability to lead the party IMO)Psychoserenity wrote:Are any of them planning to take Labour back to the left, where they belong? Re: The UK election thread
The cuts which are coming are going to be so deep that I doubt this government, especially being a coalition, will survive its full term. If they do I suspect it will only be at the cost of keeping control of mounting public rebellion. Given that they are cutting 25% off the police budgets over the next five years it is hard to see how they will manage to though.
