HAVE YOU DECIDED!?
Apparently almost a third of voters are still undecided about who to vote for. Have you decided? And WILL you vote!
I find this a bit strange and actually rather alarming because to me it indicates that the policies are not distinctive enough for the public to differentiate, especially with a serious third party around for the first time. Or perhaps that is makes not a lot of difference who you vote for overall because the script is written
I have come to the conclusion that some of the 'predictions' made by Marx about capitalism are actually beginning to kick in. Its one reason why the next government is going to have such a tough job.
The election and our current system has not and perhaps cannot address some of the macro issues concerning capitalism.
/Rant off.

Re: HAVE YOU DECIDED!?
Yeah I've decided; Lib Dems all the way.
I seriously doubt that a third are undecided though - those people counted as undecided are probably either not intending to vote at all, or didn't want to let the polls know who they're voting for, and politely said 'undecided' rather than 'fuck off I'm not telling you'.
I can't believe that there are that many people, intending to vote tomorrow, who haven't pretty much made up there minds.
As far as capitalism goes - fuck it, it can't last forever can it? And we've got the technology to dispense with it now, if only we'd stop fighting each other. ho hum

Couldn't be arsed with voting when I lived there and really can't be arsed going through the hassle of getting a postal vote

Labour. I'd rather vote LD, but in my area everyone but labour seems pretty useless.
I've also only had any canvassing for labour, one leaflet. Obviously my road doesn't contain a high number of voters.

OP: You're seeing the failure of popular democracy, not capitalism.

Still undecided. I wanna vote UKIP, but Lib Dems are the only party with a chance of keeping Nu Labour and tories out.
So one of them 2.

Re: HAVE YOU DECIDED!?
No that was the point I was making. Capitalism requires new markets all the time. It exploits labour and if necessary makes it cheaper and cheaper, lowering the amount it pays in relative terms to the workers who serve the system in order to maintain profits. Those workers end up not being able to afford the products of their own labour and so new markets have to be found. Automation adds to this process as it creates either high unemployment or a very low wage economy as we have developed here with millions working in fast food outlets and shops.born-again-atheist wrote:OP: You're seeing the failure of popular democracy, not capitalism.
The solution capitalism employs is to find new markets as I said. These are now beginning to run out. It is an inherent problem and one identified by Marx.
Another 'solution' for workers within a Capitalist system to afford to buy its produce is to develop high levels of debt. That is exactly what led to the banking crisis and the current recession. That debt developed to fund the demand for profit of capitalism, but of course that credit was based on a sham. We will see a lot more of this as the cracks in the system grow. A government of any colour as things stand are unable to address these structural issues because they are themselves part of the capitalist infrastructure. Nobody offers an alternative and we are left struggling to cope with the inherent instability that is built into capitalism.

If I lived in the UK, I'd vote Liberal Dem, alas, I am American.
It's not all bad, I'm Californian
Gavin Newsom for Lt. Governor; Jerry Brown for Gov.
It's not all bad, I'm Californian

Re: HAVE YOU DECIDED!?
Ah just watch and see how few seats the Lib Dems actually get . People have this strange idea that we have only two options and will vote to stop the Tories
they will see that voting Labour is the must likely was to deny the conservatives seats .... and because of our strange voting system votes for the Lib Dems will not translate into seats in parliament anyway ........
Edit .. just voted I was the first at the polling station .....we are all very excited

Re: HAVE YOU DECIDED!?
I never decide until I actually have the pencil in my hand. Even when I think I know, the action I take is often different when I get there.
Usually I decide to deface the ballot paper. This time I almost wrote "...is probably a closet gay" next to the Christian Party candidate because of their anti-gay policies. Then I was tempted to vote Tory for a laugh... but I imagined that if the Tories won my constituency by one vote, I'd be forced to kill myself.
So, I thought I'd vote Lib Dem like I'd been planning... but figured it was pointless to vote for a party I don't fully identify with that have no possibility of winning in my constituency. Even if the Lib Dems won a general election, I doubt we'd see the kind of change I'd like. I'm sure it would be an improvement, but only a nudge in the right direction.
As I'd like to see government scaled down to the smallest geographical level - I sometimes identify with Plaid (the Welsh Nationalist party), because they are ultimately campaigning for an independent Wales - the smallest unit of government conceivable attainable within my own lifetime. But I don't fully identify with their other policies, their share is insignificant in my constituency and their candidate is a complete fucking politico twat... three good reasons to not vote for them.
In the end I put a cross for the Greens, which was about as useful as spoiling my ballot paper, but I liked the candidate a lot, he seems to talk a great deal of sense and didn't resort to the usual obtusification that we expect from political candidates - plus I identify with many of their policies.
