Mystery, Birds Falling From The Sky

Mystery, Birds Falling From The Sky

Postby Ironclad » Wed Mar 10, 2010 7:29 pm

The birds were spotted falling onto the entrance of a house in Coxley in Somerset on Sunday 7 March.

Animal welfare officer Alison Sparkes, who was called by police, said: "It was a remarkable sight, I've never seen anything like it."

There is no evidence the birds were ill or poisoned before they hit the ground.

Ms Sparkes said: "Onlookers said they heard a whooshing sound and then the birds just hit the ground.

"They had fallen on to the ground in quite a small area, about 12ft (3.6m) in diameter.

"They appeared to be in good condition other than injuries that they appear to have suffered when they hit they ground.

Truly fucking bizarre!

Woah. Must've been a navigation cock up, like all the red arrows flying into a hillside.

I don't know anyone who has ever seen a wild bird drop dead and fall out of the sky (and believe me, I have asked, odd though that may seem).

I once heard of a woman who was killed, while riding her bicycle in Richmond Park near London, by a duck that died on the wing and fell on her.

My family and I were sitting in the living room (must be 25 yrs ago)- suddenly there was a huge thudding bang from the window and when we looked- on the window was a perfect dusty imprint in the outline of a bird (dove sized with symmetrical outstretched wings) on the window- it looked beautiful in the evening sunshine. Lying on the floor under the window, however, was an unremarkably battered dead dove. :?

Many years ago, on a whim, some friends and I purchased a caravan. Our aim was to tow it to various parts of the UK and get drunk. In true metal style, we painted it black and gave it a gothic interior.

One morning at a camp-site near York, a little girl came up to us as we staggered out of the van, very much the worse for wear (us, not the girl) and opined "That's a nasty caravan".

Precocious little tyke - she got her come-uppance later in the day when a swan flew at full tilt right into the side of her caravan and made her cry.

Do not mock the Black Caravan of Death....

ARMAGEDDON COMES!!!! PREPARE FOR THE RAPTURE!!!!1!!1! :panic:
"His philosophy was a mixture of three famous schools -- the Cynics, the Stoics and the Epicureans -- and summed up all three of them in his famous phrase, 'You can't trust any bugger further than you can throw him, and there's nothing you can do about it, so let's have a drink.'
Terry Pratchett

To predict the behavior of ordinary people in advance, you only have to assume that they will always try to escape a disagreeable situation with the smallest possible expenditure of intelligence.

Ian can tell you that it happens all the time around Navy ships. I don't know if he will tell you WHY, however.

I was thinking Star Trek IV when the whale-biologist woman runs into the side of the cloaked bird-of-prey.
