Injustice, Cruelty, Entrapment

Post by L'Emmerdeur » Thu Mar 26, 2026 5:56 pm

The thugs hired by the Trump administration to terrorize and round up undocumented immigrants to the US have proven themselves willing to ignore the rights enumerated in the US Constitution as well as human rights in general. Trump appears to consider them his personal paramilitary, most recently ordering them to American airports to 'help' the Transportation Security Agency deal with the current situation (Democratic legislators delaying funding for the Department of Homeland Security in an attempt to force reforms in ICE itself).

They've killed citizens of the US as well as kidnapping them in repeated displays of indiscriminate zeal. It's likely that they'll continue to act lawlessly. The greasy eminence Steve Bannon has said they should be deployed to polling places to 'maintain order' and prevent fraud--i.e. to intimidate and deter voters. Even if Trump doesn't use that idea, ICE will no doubt provide content for their own thread here.

Included in their infamous actions: taking people into custody when they show up for court dates, usually while those people were attempting to comply with legal requirements to maintain residence in the US. This was based on a lie. ICE is a weapon, and it's being used by creeps like Steven Miller who're willing to ignore the laws of the country to enact their xenophobic agenda. Tools like US Attorney General Bondi are there to enthusiastically smooth the path to fascism.

'Pam Bondi’s DOJ Admits Jaw-Dropping ‘Error’ Used to Justify Arrests'
President Donald Trump’s Justice Department has confessed it spent nearly a year misleading a federal court about its justification for the mass arrest of immigrants at their own hearings.

The Trump administration launched its courthouse arrest practice following the president’s return to the White House, with federal agents regularly seizing migrants in hallways outside immigration courtrooms, sometimes within minutes of those migrants appearing before a judge to plead their cases.

Legal advocates said the tactic turned the immigration court system into an enforcement trap, punishing people for doing what the law required of them.

Now the Justice Department has acknowledged that the legal foundation the administration built its case on was never there.
The admission came in a letter filed Tuesday with Judge P. Kevin Castel by Jay Clayton, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.

...

At the center of the blunder is a May 27, 2025, ICE memorandum titled Civil Immigration Enforcement Actions in or Near Courthouses, which the government had repeatedly leaned on in its defense.

Clayton told Judge Castel, who was appointed by President George W. Bush, that ICE counsel informed the Justice Department on the morning the letter was filed that the guidance “does not and has never applied to civil immigration enforcement actions” at immigration courts—which, critically, fall under the Justice Department’s own jurisdiction, not ICE’s.

The government is now withdrawing the relevant portions of multiple court briefs and statements made at a Sept. 2, 2025, oral argument that relied on the guidance.

Clayton acknowledged the full cascading nature of the error—that his attorneys had been specifically told by ICE that the guidance did apply to immigration courthouse arrests, obtained ICE approval before filing every brief in the case, and received that assurance throughout the litigation. The error, he wrote, “appears to have occurred because of agency attorney error.”

Immigration advocates were scathing. “ICE has claimed that a 2025 memorandum authorized and justified their devastating policy of conducting mass arrests at immigration courts,” Amy Belsher, director of immigrant rights litigation at the New York Civil Liberties Union, wrote in a letter to Judge Castel.

“The government is now admitting that this document—which the court relied on to deny our clients relief—does not and never has authorized these courthouse arrests. It is another example of ICE’s brazen disregard for the lives of immigrants in this country.”

"It is another example of ICE’s brazen disregard for the lives of immigrants in this country."

I guess that as soon the the dems get back in power, they'll have to decuple the size of the FBI and the federal judiciary to handle all the crimes of the frump administration.

They really are shaping up to be his personal paramilitary force. Things are getting pretty worrying in the US.

You have more faith in the Democratic Party than I. They've shown again and again that despite the occasional lapse into mildly scathing rhetoric, they don't have the spine nor even the inclination to respond appropriately to fascistic actions. Brazil and South Korea come to mind.

Meanwhile the Democratic Party dithers. Many of them are beholden to the same corporate interests that have the Republican Party on their payroll. If that oleaginous foie gras fart Newsom manages to waft himself into the White House for instance, I'd resign myself to not holding my breath. :sigh:

You have to have faith in some people, because otherwise, one has to hope somebody will nuke the country, to put an end to the despicable and the horror.

I appreciate a rant that's competently written and informative. Ms Zimet usually does a decent job.

'ICE Patriots Guard the Exit'
As airports reach peak chaos amidst a government shutdown and massive departures by unpaid TSA agents, the regime’s evil idiots moved to resolve their new quagmire by sending in the same brutal, ill-trained, much-despised ICE goons who caused the shutdown - and whose past abuses and corruption now daily come to light. The Beckett-esque result: Images of cranky travelers standing up to six hours in hellish lines overseen by aimlessly loitering henchmen: “Nobody comes, nobody goes. It’s awful.”

...

So sure, brilliant move all around to inflict ICE on America’s airports, though they’re getting paid but TSA agents all around them aren’t, and a majority of the testy, trapped travelers already want to abolish them, and amidst the surreal packs of goons in “POLICE ICE” tactical vests, with handguns, radios, handcuffs, Tasers, extra magazines - but no masks - we haven’t seen a single image of any of them doing anything but aimlessly loitering - standing, sitting, gabbing, milling, strolling, drinking coffee, scrolling through phones. Mostly, says one TSA dispatch from JFK Airport, “They’re just standing - very uncomfortably, it seems like.”

“How much of a plan does it mean (sic) to guard an exit to make sure no one comes through that exit?” Homan retorted. “These officers are well trained in security and well trained in identification. We’re just expanding the thing.” “So,” noted The Fucking News’ Jonathan Larsen. “No plan.” Also, “I’ll tell you how much of a plan it means! It means at least some of a plan, that’s how much of it means!” Also, Homan magically turned 24 hours into 2-3 weeks in ICE-ese, never mind ICE officers aren’t even well trained to do the job of ICE - terrorize brown people - let alone be well trained to pretend they’re well trained TSA officers.

Despite these deeply satisfying assurances, people had questions about a Strait-of-Hormuz, what-could-possibly-go-wrong plan to have armed, racist, ill-trained, dumb-and-dangerous-as-a-bag-of-hammers men roaming chaotic airports possibly facing a greater risk of terrorist threats during a Middle Eastern war without any clearly defined tasks. Is the plan to lock down all airports and round up people of color and anyone who resists? Will going through the wrong exit get you shot? Will ICE dress like they’re attacking Fallujah? Does ICE even know if we’re supposed to take off our belt or our shoes, and which one to beat us with?.

Will there be one ICE person at the exit and 12 more armed with a skin-tone chart to more accurately target victims? If someone doesn’t comply, which common ICE tactic will they use: a. Body slamming to the floor b. Tazing c. Non-lethal rounds into the eyes d. Shooting 9 times e. All of the above. Will ICE dress like a 16-year-old’s video game avatar, and if the plan begins in 24 hours will they have time to buy grown-up clothes? Does ICE know the long list of what you can/can’t bring on airplanes - tasers, brass knuckles, how much hand cream, which books will “require additional screening?” Orwell? Kafka? Epstein Files?
