Re: Evil Amazon
Yeah, that’s what I thought. As soon as you discover a new interest the book stores get a lot smaller, and sometimes you’re lucky to find anything at all, and you can usually forget used book shops altogether…Svartalf wrote: ↑Sun Feb 01, 2026 5:49 pmwell, We do have a sufficiency of English bookshops (though one of the better ones shut down a few years back)
I have very specific tastes, and what I want is not that easy to find though... I mean, I just check that by the ratio of 'normal and new' books I get compared to those that are actually PoD and those that are second hand and bought on the marketplace from third party vendors... and that's quite a large portion. plus even the 'normal and new ones' don't often show up on the shelves of my brick and mortar shops.

I'm afraid that the vast bulk of my new reading these days is via Amazon, on my Kindle...
Nurse, where the fuck's my cardigan?
And my gin!

At least it works, internationally. My Finnish book providers do not want my credit card. And pretty much the only books I read as ebooks are in Finnish. I did like the original Kindle. Maybe sometime in 2029 I will look into Kindle paper white again.

I have a tablet for reading, but it needs adjustment of brightness through the day.
I once read an entire Mark Twain book on a phone in half a year of building alarms. You had to sit at the gathering spots in the plant.

Re: Evil Amazon
Bezos now has to decide on the image of Amazon and Washington Post. He will likely have to make some slight divorce from supporting Trump. Otherwise his Amazon business will suffer the last 3 years of the Trump-Vance presidency.
Easiest thing is to sell the WP, as it will be worth nothing by 2029.

Trump owns 5O% of the profits from the show, so Bezos buys the rights to The Apprentice.
