I read a story about competing runners. One of them (probably to get in the others' head) was saying horrible racist things and whatever other shitty things he could say. The other, waiting for his moment patiently. As they climbed a big hill, near the top, with both men straining to get ahead, the other started SINGING.
I can think of almost nothing as demoralizing to a runner, as this kind of singing.
