Once we are out of words, Rum, all that is left is force.

If someone who you loved thought homosexuality was damaging, would you simply dismiss them from your life? Or would you think discussing your difference of opinion might be valuable?

If you dismiss, eventually, you (and the homo-damaging believer) both settle in to groups where no-one disagrees, and you both spend your golden years being right, and enjoying quiet. Unless the issue comes to force (such as a vote on gay marriage is 'force' of democracy), then neither of you have taken the time to learn about the other, and whoever has the biggest force wins.

I'm just claiming that discussion, even difficult discussion, is preferable to almost all the other alternatives.
