Don't legalise me!

Post by JimC » Sat Oct 20, 2018 4:43 am

Apparently, cannabis growers in Lebanon are concerned that legalising their product will not be to their benefit: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2018-10-20/ ... n/10398140

Not sure about the economics or politics, but I love this quote:
Bekaa Valley grower Abu Jafaar has no doubt about the quality of the local product.

"That's the best hashish in the world," he says, gesturing towards the field of chest-high plants.

"There is no such quality elsewhere in the world, except Afghanistan, where you have a similar quality. You smoke this hashish once and you will never forget it. And then you'll want to smoke it every day."

Black Moroccan was much better. (ETA: So I have been told.) Hasn't been seen for decades, though.

Actually, it was Afghan black in the day here in the UK. It was like putty and had little white specks in it which some of my more fanciful friends insisted was opium. May have been for all I know - it certainly 'took you away'.

Nowadays cannabis might as well be legal here in all but name. One smells it on the street and in the parks pretty regularly. It has a different smell to the hash (and grass) of our era. One reads it is much stronger. If so I'm not sure how people actually do stuff after a smoke. I was virtually incapacitated when stoned. Nothing made much sense at all an interacting with all but the simplest tasks way too complicated!

My experience of the Moroccan stuff came courtesy of an acquaintance who "repaired" his surfboard with the wrong resin - half a kilo of it - at its core. That was in the early 70s. You couldn't get away with such an primitive trick today.

Given that opium is a black tarry substance, your fanciful friends were very unlikely to have been correct. The white specks were more likely to be salts of some sort, or even sand.

Well, when you see a vegetable paste with white grains in it, I tend to believe them to be pollen...

Could be, but the process of making hashish would tend to blend any pollen grains in, making them indistinguishable in the final product.

I seriously have no idea... I have seen pretty little hasch in my life, and never quality stuff like Leb red or Afghan black, those things stopped reaching Europe easily back when I was a kid.

In the last few years when I still smoked, I actually preferred to get only moderately stoned, make myself a nice cup of tea and read an SF book. Really living on the edge! :hehe:
