I think in the earlier years at the start of the 20th century the UK produced what appeared to be good cars and bikes because basically they were almost the only producers and thanks to industrial revolution had plenty suppliers available. When the rest of the world caught up and overtook them their bikes and cars appeared wanting.

I have in my garage an ex-police BMW K1100 with 5,000 miles on the clock.
I bought it at an auction for about £250 without warranty. It has a blown piston.

The mileage was guaranteed genuine at the sale.

I meant to do it up, but never got round to it. It would break for good money these days, so there's still a profit in it. Mine was one of about 8 similar at the sale.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.
