Ireland's governing Fine Gael party elected Leo Varadkar as its new leader on Friday, choosing the gay, 38-year-old son of an Indian immigrant to succeed Enda Kenny as prime minister in a striking sign of the country's rapid social change.
That's going to blow the tiny minds of some rwnj's there.

"I am seriously thinking of going on a spree killing" - Svartalf.
But what amazes me is that his attaining this position is such a contrast to the old social conservatism of Ireland that (as far as I could gather at a distance) decades ago that seemed locked in by an iron allegiance to the catholic church...

Yeah, really amazing that he got his position in a country that voted for gay marriage in a referendum (try that in America) 3 years ago in a landslide. Revolutionary.
Such a progressive, gay leader too.

You could say that about literally anywhere. Gays are still struggling more in most of the countries of the posters in this forum than in Ireland*. In the 90s in school we had discussions in religion class in school and we argued it was ok to be gay with our teacher. You could go further decades back, To the 70s, but you'd only be pointing out attitudes and laws held by probably every nation on Earth at the time.
*Except glorious Holland. Obviously.
