I know some of the participants slightly, so will hold off a bit. What do you think happened?

Dunno anything about that, but there's been recent discussion here in Oz about the concept of "domestic violence" leave. I don't know how it would actually work, but presumably it would be like sick leave in that you get 'x' days per year that you can take no questions asked (unless it is over a certain number of days in a row, perhaps, like sick leave). Seems a bit of an overreach, but if I was working at the moment I'd support this 100%. Moar days off the better!

Re: What do you suppose happened...
In Oz we are renowned for our "sickie culture", where most people take their sick days to go to the football or cricket. I think it would be hilarious if we got domestic violence leave as every year you'd see every employee - man, woman, child, old person - apparently getting beaten up at home for a week.rEvolutionist wrote:Dunno anything about that, but there's been recent discussion here in Oz about the concept of "domestic violence" leave. Re: What do you suppose happened...
The article at the top of the page contains a lot of drama - but there's often a lot of drama in a small community eh? It links the domestic situation with the work situation to give the impression that someone was fired for being beaten up at home. As it's mostly written from the "victim's" point of view I presume the piece came via her and predominantly reflects her perspective, but in the regular, less dramatic everyday world of work you don't get fired off-the-cuff for 'insubordination' on a one-off whim, not without there being some ongoing issue/s over time. I'm not inclined to point the finger of blame at anyone in particular but....
So Cunt, tell us how it really went down. Are you the other guy who was taken to hospital, or is the self-harming drunk a member of your lodge?

Re: What do you suppose happened...
Reading between the lines, the woman was trouble, and they are well rid of her.
Of course, her version of the matter is going to favour her. But even reading that, she seems to have caused her own problems. Taking the company phone home, refusing to give it back when asked for it, texting her superiors on it, and reprimanding them for some email, and all when she was on the standard 90 day trial period.
And you can't pre-judge an individual for sure, but people who are victims of domestic violence are often involved in the flare ups in the first place. Not always, but she sounds the type who trouble would follow around.
I would have sacked her too, most likely.

Re: What do you suppose happened...
First off, there was an error which I attribute to CBC - 'you've got another think coming'. My guess is that the phrase was delivered to the reporter verbally, and that reporter, and their editor, let it go.mistermack wrote:Reading between the lines, the woman was trouble, and they are well rid of her.

Also, CBC is horribly left and teary. I keep that in mind while reading them. They did not talk to the man who was shipped to jail, and got no comment from the authorities. The facts in this mainly come from one source.
I think the reporting is the real story here. That the woman claims she was assaulted may be true, but that doesn't mean she didn't also assault. What concerns me is that there are 5 kids being educated under her tender mercies.
Ms. G. is a decent sort, has been a politician, and has worked for the Status of Women thingy (as have a couple of my feminist heroes, including one current one). Ms. G. has all the elements of the feminist uniform (hair colour out of a skittles bag, overweight or obese, thick glasses). In short, everything which would place her firmly outside of the misogynist camp.
I am interested in how the dismissal will go. I think the Chamber had every right to fire the lady for no reason, however, it seems they have given a reason, which may change things.
Oh, and I don't know any of the participants directly, just that I know Ms. G. by her work and reputation. I also know that in so many of the domestic violence cases here, there is more than one violent asshole involved.
By the way, Brian Peacock, I appreciate what you said. Good thing I don't report this sort of thing, eh? Maybe you should check your privilege.

Re: What do you suppose happened...
I bet lots of people wish they could leave their company issued cell phone at the office lol. The rest of the article is just too confusing and unbelievable. Women vs women office politics ugh, even children are better behaved.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
Re: What do you suppose happened...
It is a combination of the difficulty and subtlety needed to really understand the story, and the CBC's hamfisted, teary-eyed handling of it that make this so interesting.
