Yep. Jonno thinks people accept all policies of whatever party they vote for (the stupid "mandate" concept). That's demonstrably untrue and belies a total lack of understanding of what drives voters to vote the way they do.

Good points, but it is also worth remembering that there would be a significant minority (let's say 15-20% or so) that would agree wholeheartedly with such sentiments, both here and in the UK. Jonno's pessimism extends that to "most", but let's not pretend an audience for such nasty stuff doesn't exist...

No one votes for the Tory party out of concern for the poor at best or is quite simply happy to hit them at worst. That's political reality in a democracy. In a democracy if a government does things you don't like and stays in power then plainly the issue is far more with the people who elected them than a few hundred politicians.

Hurting the poor obviously does not hurt your electoral chances and highly likely to actually enhance it
