Ebola tests on patient at Royal Glamorgan Hospital

Ebola test results are expected on a patient who is being monitored in an isolation unit at a hospital in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

The individual is being cared for at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, near Llantrisant, since returning from West Africa with a fever.

Public Health Wales (PHW) said it was not a confirmed case and the patient was "undergoing testing".

Medical staff in protective clothing are looking after the person.

Pontypridd AM Mick Antoniw said it was "purely precautionary measure".

"The patient is in isolation and will remain there until tests have been completed and his illness diagnosed.

"In the meantime, we can take a great deal of comfort in the professionalism of our NHS in Wales and its staff, who have responded so quickly and comprehensively by implementing their public protection plan."

A PHW spokesman said: "There is a person who has been admitted to hospital, who has been in an area where Ebola is present and who is displaying some symptoms.
