He's politically savvy in a nasty way. He will lose this in my estimation and all that will be left is an increased sense of bitterness on the part of some Scottish people and the potential for something akin to the the Irish situation arising in due course.

Of course, the question might even be moot, if Scotland wants to join the EU. While existing member states don't have to adopt the Euro, newcomers seem to have no choice:

Of course, since independent Scotland would not be a de jure EU member, they might have to wait a long time before they get in, and they might not be up to Euro standards when they do, so they'll need an interim currency.

Whatever the outcome of the currency negotiations, the end result will be a joke, in the context of the vote.
The question will be : '' Should Scotland be an independent country? ''.

It's perfectly clear that the Scottish Nats CAN'T operate Scotland as an independent country.

Like I said all along, the question is a complete con.
