I'm sure there are millions of Muslims who hate the west (since there are millions of Westerners who it seems hate the west) but if there were millions of Jihadists I don't think we'd be worrying about a few goofy oblivious teenagers blowing themselves up now and then. In fact that seems to me the sort of tactic of a dangerous but small fringe. Millions of Jihadists suggests to me enough to make their holy war total rather than scurrying about like malevolent vermin with high explosives.

You could be correct, I really don't know the numbers, but if you are then they are comically bad at Jihad and we should be more worried about the terrifying global ambitions of Finland.

If one counts jihadists as those muslims who agree that violence directed at the west is justified, I'm pretty certain I'm right...

If we count those who are 100% prepared to do the job themselves, then fewer, but still a worrying number...

Well one has to differentiate, I think, between those who are engaged in what they see as defending their lands from hostile invaders (like many of the groups in Afghanistan and Pakistan and Iraq did) and Jihadists who are fighting an actual holy war. During such times the old adage about "my enemies enemy" comes into play and I think it convenient for Western Media to fuse that into one "Jihadist" narrative. However I still think if there is a Jihad going on it's focussed predominantly on Islam by a tiny group of actual Jihadists. I'm quite certain that without interference in the aformentioned regions, you could easily discount a large proportion of those who hate the west and in fact Hatred of the West is escalating precisely because of that interference.

One group wants the west out of their lands and political system, the other wants almost everyone dead Westerner or not.

Yeah I think you are exaggerating that tendency since it is the operative model of those currently slaughtering Muslims in mostly every country that is predominantly Muslim since they consider those who preach modernity and secularism in their own cultures as being the infidel. Again a very small group not a general tendency. Not all Christians blow up abortion clinics, though there is a general tendency for Christians to get impassioned about abortion and accuse those who kill their fetuses as murders.

I think if there was a general tendency to "slaughter the infidel" we'd see a lot, lot more slaughtered infidels. We don't, outside Islam the Jihadists are hardly even a statistical blip. Peanuts are more dangerous to society at large. So are Americans.
