It's a piece of piss to be cowiz, but it's not cowiz to be a piece of piss. Or something like that.

Saw Hugh Cornwall recently doing an acoustic set at the Burnley Mechanics. Not that great. Time has not been kind.

The Stranglers are one of my favourite ever bands.

Trivia: Did you know that The Stranglers' drummer Jeff Black stated that Gloden Brown wasn't about heroin but actually about Marmite. Having tried heroin I can tell you it is a lot like the song Golden Brown (except the song is a lot better).

I thought this thread was going to be about something else.

But back on topic, I do quite like The Stranglers, but I've never actually wondered what the song Golden Brown was about.

The Stranglers were fucking amazing at their peak and some of those old albums still sound like no other group. The later stuff was very patchy though I'd still listen to anything with Hugh Cornwell at least once. I think The Raven is still my favourite (no Black and White, no wait - Rattus AAAAGH!) - one of my own bits of personal woo is that whenever I move house, after I'm unpacked the first bit of music I play is that Longships/Raven intro off that album.

Fucking shocked at what I've heard post-Cornwell though. A real shame.
