Two Hit Wonders

Post by Tero » Sat Apr 11, 2020 3:10 pm

No one hit wonders with a semi-hit B side allowed. Has to be two releases. Two singles from the same album allowed. List the two hits both in your post.

This is a band I have seen mid 80s.

Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late

One hit wonders are noted by the industry. Two hits dodgy.

Yeah, there are not many. If you look at Concrete Blonde, Joey was top 10 and God is a Bullet was not even top 20.

Same with Missing Persons. Nobody Walks in LA was a hit, Words (better song) was not a hit.

Grateful Dead had only one hit single, Zappa had two: Yellow Snow, Valley Girl.

Both of these are collector's items among Zappa fans as 45s. Valley Girl went to 12 in US. Yellow Snow also gave Zappa his only top 10 album, well almost. Hot Rats was 9 in the UK.

the only other songs with any real radio play were Montana and Disco Boy. Montana was not a single. Bobby Brown went to 1 in Norway and Sweden, also selling the album Sheik Yerbuti there and Europe.

The album sold OK on the strength of Montana. I think it had hit potential, but we were lost in mid 70s by then and only die hard fans listened to these longer songs with solos. It was an odd time, about 1975. Punk and new wave were bubbling under. By 76-77 I had seen some of those.

The Gun Club. It's just one song with different lyrics. There are more.

I'm friends with the bass player of the Muffs, I think, on FB. If you are there you might know why. Ok, not friends, I just post on his girl friend's page.

Technically a two hit wonder, but one of a kind. I worshiped this woman and mourned when she died.
