Canto a tenore, the term given to the pastoral vocal tradition of Sardinia, is an acapella style relying on harmonically rich vowel sounds, percussive consonants and the drawn out elongation of cadences. Sung for the sheer joy of the performers, groups of men stand in a circle and sing at each other rather than in a more traditional forward-facing line up. When drinking is involved dancing sometimes occurs.

Even famous opera pieces are based on some pastoral songs. Like the famous Bacarolle, "A barcarolle is a traditional folk song sung by Venetian gondoliers", Wikipedia
