Laibach are an enigma. They take their name from the capital of their home country, Slovenia, back when it was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, and also, later, under the nazis. They wear (or at least used to wear) military uniforms on stage and perform cover versions of popular songs, executed as pseudo-military marches and agit-prop theatre.
And they are now going to play in the DPRK!
Sounds like a match made in heaven. Or hell. Or 1950s Moscow!
But I have a sneaking suspicion that Laibach are secretly laughing at their reputation. That they find their invitation to play NK hilarious - and the fact that they will be covering (along with their hits) Korean folk songs and a selection from The Sound of Music ridiculously ironic.
Or maybe they really are nazis with a love of authoritarianism in all its guises and a really poor taste in music???
