Re: The beatles were fucking fantastic!
There is a popular brand of bland dreary passive aggressive rock that makes the media all the time these days. Maybe there's other stuff, I don't know. This 'phase' in mainstream American rock seems to have gone on for some time though....over a decade now. Seems to have started with Greenday.Seabass wrote:Depends on what you like. Re: The beatles were fucking fantastic!
I've got Beatles on the brain now. I just sang "No Reply." In a dream. Word for word. After all these years. Those early Beatles songs were fucking magical.
Then in my dream I sang Robbie Robertson's "Showdown at Big Sky," and then Steve Winwood's "Back In the High Life." And then I sang more Beatles songs, switching to later stuff like "Cry Baby Cry."
I guess I was giving a concert in my head

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

There's maybe 3 songs from the 60s to 72 I could play every hour. No wearing out.

Re: The beatles were fucking fantastic!
Music these days is the same as music everydays. The majority of it is 4/4 nursery rhyme shit. However, there are more musicians now than ever who have a wider range and variety of influences than ever before. Each year there are more interesting an innovative things released that most people never hear, just like with the majority of all art. The problem is not music, the problem is things like commercial radio.

Re: The beatles were fucking fantastic!
These days! There is some great shit coming out of America right now re:rock. Sure you won't here it on commercial radio. All you'll get is endless Nirvana or Green Day wannabes and Nickleback, but there are tons of innovative bands, System of a Down, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Mastodon, Tool, Neurosis, Wax Fang, Baroness, to name a few. If you think music has become samey you have grown out of touch with music and are listening to the pop which is influenced by the good music which was around when you were younger.Scrumple wrote:These days. Re: The beatles were fucking fantastic!
I guess I like the Beatles, some tracks more than others but frankly I'm rather jaded with hearing their music, a bit like Bob Marley or any classics that have been over played. I grew up in the 70's but had a mother who played an excellent eclectic collection for us kids. The Kinks, Stones, prog rock, folk, who, Zep, doors, Van Morrison, and on and on....

Got all their albums on my MP3 player a while back and played their whole discography from start to finish over a week walking dogs. They did make a few dud songs (the one's written for Ringo in particular) but you know. Effing fantastic stuff really. The impressive thing is tha arc of their songwriting, starting with pop stuff like I wanna hold your hand and ending up only three or four years later with Strawberry Fields, I am the Walrus, Yesterday and so many more.

Yep, I'd say that the least interesting music is being made right now right here in the U.K. mostly due to my generation now hitting the nostalgia and complacency wave that comes with middle age. But then Gen X were always nostalgic and complacent anyway.Animavore wrote:These days! There is some great shit coming out of America right now re:rock. Sure you won't here it on commercial radio. There are lulls, but last year was a stonking year for music across the globe, this year's looking better, but times have changed, you need to make an effort now to hear good music.

They're ok, but I much prefer Paul McCartney's solo work.
