Re: The beatles were fucking fantastic!
By the time the White Album came out I was in high school and started some critical thinking. This led me to being an atheist by 20. I dismissed the spiritual and mind blowing stuff if the hippie era as crap. Thus psychedelia was crap, even if entertaining. The Vietnam stuff I identified with. I refused to take US citizenship until the Vietnam war ended. My mom never did, dad did about 1970.

Said Peter...what you're requesting just isn't my bag
Said Daemon, who's sorry too, but y'see we didn't have no choice
And our hands they are many and we'd be of one voice
We've come all the way from Wigan to get up and state
Our case for survival before it's too late
Turn stone to bread, said Daemon Duncetan
Turn stone to bread right away...

I was 13 when Peppers came out. The first two albums I bought when I was 14 and got my first real stereo were Magical Mystery Tour and Jimi's Electric Ladyland. Pretty much set my musical tastes. The 'Nam was a BIG fucking deal, because they were drafting our asses. The draft ended in '73, but they still did the lottery thing for the next few years. I was eligible for three drawings, and hit high numbers each time, so even if it was reinstituted I probably wouldn't have been called. Fucking alright, that, I wasn't about to go kill little yellow people who never did a thing to me. If they'd started it up again I'd be Canadian now.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

I finished school in November 1972. Australia had conscription at the time. Half the male population over 18 were picked by lottery, and a few thousand of them finished up in Vietnam. On the 5th of December Labor took over government. It was the first time in 23 years that the conservatives lost an election. On the first or second day of Gough Whitlam's Prime Ministership he abolished conscription and withdrew all Australian soldiers from Vietnam. Phew. I could listen to Abbey Road without having to worry about being called up.laklak wrote: ↑Fri Jul 06, 2018 5:01 pmThe 'Nam was a BIG fucking deal, because they were drafting our asses. I graduated high school in '72, and the draft ended January 1st '73. I started Uni in August of '72, and declared a Theology major because they were exempt from the draft. Only Theology and Premed courses were exempt, and Premed required actual work. For Theology you just talked shit if you bothered to go to class. I didn't bother very often.

Needs more dubstep.Tero wrote: ↑Tue Jul 03, 2018 8:40 pmThe Next Beatles Reissue Will Be the White Album, According to George Martin’s Son
“The White Album, which is the next release – that was when [the band] started becoming properly indulgent…There are so many takes of ‘Sexy Sadie’, for instance,” Martin said. “The efficiency went slightly out the window. There’s a lot of stuff. So, it’s getting the balance right.”
Fans hope for full Esher demos of the songs.

Hold on now... you've just insulted one of my idols.
Listen to his version of Common People and tell me it isn't superior to the original in every way. It seethes with subtle nuance and urbane understated bonniness.
