Re: The beatles were fucking fantastic!
So many people fall victim to the "it's played a lot so it must be good" syndrome. When I was in high school they had "Beatle's hour" every morning for the school bus crowd. I would have killed for a Walkman back then.
Re: The beatles were fucking fantastic!
They may have a dozen great songs, I still think they're shit.
Bloody fucking yellow fucking sub fuck marine.
Die Lennon, DIE!

I had similar problems with Oasis back in the 90s. Thank fuck I did have a Walkman. People are just gluttons for sing-a-long music. I can respect that. I'm guilty of having an aul sing-song when the alcohol is flowing and the craic is ninety. Hell I've even sung along to East 17, but when the lights are out and everyone's gone back home I prefer to listen to something a little more evocative and less superficial. Well, most of the timeGawdzilla Sama wrote:So many people fall victim to the "it's played a lot so it must be good" syndrome. I'm not too fond of Yellow Submarine, but I don't hate it I love the sound effects in it
Even though I love the Beatles, though, there are a few songs by them I absolutely cannot fucking stand, like Rocky Raccoon and Come Together.

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

I like that one. Good silly fun.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:"Maxwell's Silver Hammer", on the other hand...
I've never liked Back in the USSR. Dunno if I'd go so far as to say I hate it. But certainly never liked it.

The sole reason for that was to get "the other Georgia" out there.tattuchu wrote:I like that one. Good silly fun.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:"Maxwell's Silver Hammer", on the other hand...

Re: The beatles were fucking fantastic!
To be honest, whether you like them or not, (for example I am no fan of The Rolling Stones save We Love you and Paint it Black) one has to respect them for their ablility to transform their medium. They were certainly not alone, but they were popular, massively so and unlike say Zappa or even The wonderous Beach Boys innovations, they're caught the public imagination. The were interfaces between an emergent post-war youth culture and the establishment.
Yeah and without them Oasis would not have existed, nor E.L.O, nor thousands of other bands who's youth was so influenced by them.

The Mersey Beat didn't originate with them.Audley Strange wrote:Yeah and without them Oasis would not have existed, nor E.L.O, nor thousands of other bands who's youth was so influenced by them.

I am in my shite being bloody minded. They transformed pop music, big whoop. So did Justin Bieber. To which, by the way, there is a logical pathway from The Beatles.Audley Strange wrote: fair enough, I think your being bloody minded though.
