Recommend some new music for me.

Post by fretmeister » Sat Oct 13, 2012 12:11 am

I'm a bit bored with my music collection.

I listen to a wide range and consider that there are excellent talents in every genre. But trawling though the shit to fnd the gems is wearing.

So, if you could recommend only 1 album by someone, what would it be?

Thank you.

Bella, when I started a thread like this, you posted just to say you hate threads like this.

Recommend something! If he has it, no biggie. :flowers:

I was just listening to Portishead in my local coffee shop-- thinking they still sound great after.... 15 years? (I loved them in college.)
If you never gave them a shot, maybe give them a listen now? Sort of industrial alternative dreamy.

Oh, and J's really been into listening to Boards of Canada (they've been around, too-- and have or had a lot of stuff online)-- ambient/electronica.
Nice music to work to.

And shit! You're right! What am I thinking of?

Hardly seems looking for-- probably like my remembering Pappa not supporting sexual reassignment surgery.

How new?

I'll give some from this century that I found very appealing.

Radiohead. In Rainbows

Grizzly Bear. Veckatimest.

LCD Soundsystem. LCD Soundsystem.

Tool. Lateralus and 10000 days.

Very recent.

Swans. The Seer

Dinosaur Jnr. I bet on Sky.

Grizzly Bear. Shields.

I got tired of 'classic rock' and went surfing through the local FM stations. Found one that supposedly played Billboard top 100, but it's more like the top 10, over and over. So I went to billboard.com and checked out the lists. I don't do entire albums, just hit songs, so if you can work it go check them out.

The world is a thing of utter inordinate complexity and richness and strangeness that is absolutely awesome. I mean the idea that such complexity can arise not only out of such simplicity, but probably absolutely out of nothing, is the most fabulous extraordinary idea. And once you get some kind of inkling of how that might have happened, it's just wonderful. And . . . the opportunity to spend 70 or 80 years of your life in such a universe is time well spent as far as I am concerned.

There is no new music. The notes haven't been revised since 1982, and only then because I found a back door to the Matrix control room.
