It's perhaps saying something about my knowledge of the genre that when I saw the thread "Jazz" in "Music" I immediately thought of Fat Bottomed Girls.

Anyone mentioned Jeff Berlin yet? Specifically, the album "Taking Notes" is one of my favorites.

The sound quality on this video is not the best, but does give some idea of (one side of) his style:

And here are some faster rythms:

Neither of these do his sound much justice - if anyone finds better sound quality, please post!

I never get the idea of playing lead on a bass. Its a BASS after all. However he does it rather excellently doesn't he!?

Did you never listen to Stanley Clarke? Or Jaco Pastorius? Or Marcus Miller? You should!

Not Marcos Miller, but the others, yes. I think my point still stands though. The bass is after all limited in its range. Not to take anything away from these talented guys.

Little Ellery Eskelin on sax with big Gerry Hemingway on drums. Parts one and two.
Recorded March 27th, 2008 at the Rhythm in the Kitchen Festival, NYC.

Both brilliant and ace. :smoke:

These guys play around Nottingham a lot - I have seen them many times and they are all hugely talented.

http://www.deliquartet.co.uk/

Sadly, there are only a couple of samplers on their website with no details of how to get hold of their albums (which are both excellent) although I am sure that they would welcome email enquiries. They are a hard-working band that loves making music and makes music that they love and the world needs more just like them!

:wtf: I never got that that's what he's doing, although it gets quite obvious when you mention it. Guess that tells how well I really understand music

Anyway, Jazz is definitely the thing for me, although I definitely thrive the most with some obscure band jamming in a small crowded restaurant.

Here's the ace as far as 'lead bass' is concerned. Personally I think he should have taken up the guitar! But that doesn't take anything away from the guy. (the main solo stuff is half way in)
