Ah. Emma Kirkby...

I was lucky enough to share a dinner table with Emma Kirkby once. A lovely person, but jeez, she eats like a pig!

That's probably why he could not get anyone to perform his first piano concerto, or even get the score printed, until this one became a success. Piano Concerto No. 2, Op. 21 was composed in 1829, a year before Piano Concerto No. 1 , Op. 11

I had a chat with her during the interval at The Maltings, Surrey where she was performing. I think we sort of 'clicked' - she kept looking back as she returned to the stage (sigh).

I was in love - which was unfortunate as I was with a lady-friend at the time...

Yeah. It's not like they're bad pieces, it's just that they don't hang together easily.

Yes, well, we've had this piece before, but...

This performance is one of the very few that makes me really, really wish I had a good multi-channel system.

Probably the brest pianist of all time. (Schumann only)

That had me chuckling too.

Maybe I was just in the wrong mood for Schumann, but I found the audio performance ordinary. The video was occasionally mammorable, though, especially when the pianist acknowledged the applause.

Bach a la Turco. No, not really, but I could not resist.

I did not know that there are so many subtly different tunings. Here Tolgahan Çoğulu presents six of them in two instalments. It's kind of a blind test.

It seems as if one of the videos is flipped horizontally. It's not. Showoff.
