While researching license-free music for a project I'm working on I came across this abomination!

Got an hour to think about elitism in music?

That is an excellent exposition. Thank you very much.

One of several highlights:
André is selling the image of elitism to non-classical audiences by ditching the musical substance and essence of classical music. It's bourgeois cosplay. For those invested in trying to diversify classical music and modernise its image this is an internal act of cultural terrorism.
Fucking gold. My hate for André Rieu is boundless. The quoted bit encapsulates why I think summary execution is too good for that cynical exploiter and destroyer of music. Waterboarding for the rest of his natural life would be a more suitable fate.

And now that I have read that he was the highest selling music artist in the Australian market between 2006 and 2011, I feel shamed to the point where I wish I could sink tracelessly into the ground. Also, waterboarding is too good for that criminal. There must be something more horrific that can be done to him. Any suggestions?

Entire point of classical music is it belongs to the elite not the common man who expects no quality only sound with his music.

I want you to listen to this piece here. It is written for the discerning not the lowbrow who'll find nothing there to appeal. This remix is even more elitist than the original, which everyone who is someone has heard by now.

Nah. The point of classical music is music making within a classical tradition, and the point of music is to express and communicate. The video I posted notes that what this particular form of music making expresses and communicates varies at any given time in history, and goes beyond the sonic realm - as does all music.

Oof! :cheer:

The Goede Hoop Marimba Band has been around for some years now. The above performance, and a few others are published on Youtube.
