Zappa's favourite album

Post by Rum » Thu Dec 02, 2010 6:26 am

Steve Vai played with Zappa for three years. Zappa, a person who famously was not in the habit of throwing praise around once said that Vai's album Passion and War was his favourite album. I only read this yesterday, having bought a Mojo special issue all about FZ. So I bought the album. Impressive stuff!

If a bit cheesy.

But the man can certainly make the guitar talk... and whisper... and whine... and sing... and scat... and talk smack.

Man, I want his chops... actually I'd just settle for his digits... mine are too bloody short.

Steve Vai has approximately 19 fingers on each hand and they are all longer than my legs - I have calculated this FACT scientifically by listening to him play over many years. :tea:

If you get a chance to see him play live - GO! If you ever get a chance to see him play live with Zappa plays Zappa, in the Royal Albert Hall, you'll be as lucky as I was a few years back!!1!

The drummer on this album is pretty hot too. Anyone know who it is?

Chris Frazier. He now plays with Whitesnake.

Christ that is cheesy. it sounds like music from an 80s tv show.
I much rather listen to Neil Young, I think his solo on like a hurricane is far more soulful than this ' by numbers' nonsense.

He absolutely fucking LOVED this track too! It was listening to this music, composed by a guy that looked like a mad scientist, that made him want to become a composer - and also directly influenced his use of extensive percussion and sound-effects in performance.

Nice to see percussionists at work, earning their paycheck.
