What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Yeah, he has some religious themed music too, but it seems to be less abut spreading The Word than an excuse to write another set of spooky lyrics.

Here's the story behind his greatest commercial success:

And here's Jerry Jeff Walker performing that song:

I was innocently walking down the street in Santa Cruz, California when this guy comes up to me and explains that something came up and he couldn't make the show and would I like his ticket. I said "Sure, thanks!"

Twas then that I saw Fred Eaglesmith for the first time.

The song starts around 0:45 on this next one:

Went to a Gary Allen concert tonight.
He's good, good music and he puts on a good show.

No regrets
(for Stanley :swoon: )

I'm a fan of quite a bit of old school Americana though not particularly "country" (not that i think such definitions are particularly useful tbh)
I think Garth Brooks, Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley and that style of poppy country stuff is fucking awful if that helps and i personally feel that Cyrus puts the cunt in country.

But these artists are truly brilliant, IMSHO

Love McMurtry.

I think I posted some of his stuff earlier in the thread.

We don't have any John Prine yet, so here's John and Emmy Lou. It doesn't get much better, actually.

Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
