Today I tried to get some replacement foam pads for my Grado headphones (only the SR60) and they are about £25 a pair. For foam pads.

So after trawling through the AV forums I have located some £7 things that fit, and are apparently much more comfortable for long wearing periods. Should be here next week. I have high hopes. I have a paid of Senn HD380 as well, and although they are very useful for places were open back cans would be rude, they don't half make my ears hot! Looking forward to getting the Grados back into action.

.:hehe: Reminds me of a HiFi fair, where suddenly really exceptionally clear and crisp sound was heard from one of the exhibition areas. Yes, there was an opera singer performing live. the 5-figure priced systems in the neighbouring boots were really lame in comparison.

I've got aftermarket pads for my cans, but forum people say they're hard to get on, and the worker that helped me with that stuff was a klutz.

Yet to install.

I fitted the new pads and they are much better than the original ones. Far more comfy.

Forgot my Sennheiser active noise cancelling earphones on an airplane, on my previous trip abroad. So I bought a new pair of Sony in-ear plugs with active noise cancelling on the airport, when I left for Vienna. The sound quality was not too hot, but the noise cancellation was great, and that's what I really use them for. Several magnitudes better than the on-ear Sennheisers. Wearing comfort was quite ok, which is really a lot said, as I normally abhor in-ear plugs of any sort.

You guessed it already? On my way back from Vienna, I left these on the plane too. When we started landing, I put these and my book on the free chair beside me, when I got ome, only my book could be found in my bag. :gaah: On Monday, I can try to call the "lost and found dept". The Senneheisers never got there, hope I'll be more lucky this time.

These ones I got back from the lost'n found . Only cost me a tenner in commission, and a few km driving. Really close that I missed them, though. They where filed under "MP3 player with earplugs", because there's a small battery box with a few buttons for the noise killing effect. Luckily I realized that box might easily get misinterpreted as an MP3 player.

Several thousand CDs half rare, mysterious or deleted or just off the curve whilst the remainder are mainstream and annoyingly average. Mediocre Acoustic solutions HI-Fi wired into a in-cabinet computer for offline listening. A couple of wharfdale diamond-10 bookcase speakers. Built the whole set-up myself. I don't know how now. Then there's the 60gb creative zen with a few thousand fav tracks.

The speakers are probably the most expensive thing in the whole set but the sound is worth it. Any improvement by spending thousands would almost certainly be minimal.

Went to Best Buy to look at the clearance corner. I now have a sleek desk top 40 W unit that still plays CDs. The iPod docks are all that were in the portable stereo section for new items.

Sounds good, has a button for extra bass. Pink Floyd Brick playing now. But then comes the stereo test. I have symphonies here, but that does not work for the test. Iäve done this ritual since I was 15: new stereo is tested with Clapton Baker Bruce. Any Cream studio album will do. Also Goodbye with the half live.

On the recommendation of a fried, I got a set of Superlux 668B headphones.

They cost about £35.

They are as good as my Grado cans. Uncoloured and accurate and revealing of loads of detail. I am amazed.

They are also more comfy than my Grado's - but then to be honest almost everything in the universe is!

Worried that CD players may go extinct, got a $350 Maranz single disc player. Only one buyer got a lemon. It has a 3 yr warranty, so in that time I should find out if I have a lemon.

Of course, 2 channel amps will go extinct, too. And the type of cable and jack.

I just missed a Cyrus CD6SE and Amp on ebay that went really cheap.

Very annoyed I forgot the auction was ending!

I bought a Klipsch RW-12d 12" subwoofer. I started looking at 10" and $100, and, well, one thing lead to another. At $280, it's a good price, and it's the right subwoofer. Somehow though, I imagined it being, well, "more impressive." (Though my neighbors may feel otherwise. I dial it to just fill out the bottom end, but I go in the kitchen and the cabinets are literally booming. So far, no specific complaint I can blame on the subwoofer.) I was originally going to go with a BIC F12, but while waiting for its price to drop, I found the frequency charts for both. The F12 drops off precipitously at 40 Hz, whereas the Klipsch goes fully down to 25-30 Hz.

I'm moving towards bluetooth for my portable mp3 player. I've got a dongle for my sandisk, and a pair of inexpensive bluetooth headphones (Kinivo, here). They sound okay, and true, the move to cordless is only a marginal improvement, but I've decided to go all in on bluetooth for portable. Unfortunately, the current pairing disconnects frequently. Not sure if it's the dongle or the headphones. Regardless, I've got a bid in on a Cowon S9 bluetooth ready player on ebay. Hedging my bets, I picked up a purple 16GB ipod nano at Target to play with or keep. Still figuring things out.

I bought a new sound card for the new workstation. I'm building an i3 box, and I normally just use the onboard sound, as with my tin ear, it's more than adequate. (I play all my music off the computer.) But Newegg had the 7.1 channel Creative Audigy for $12.95, and it's well reviewed, and I have a free PCI slot, so I figured why not. (Though the card arrived today, and it's pure white box, no software or anything. I didn't realize that when I ordered it.)
