Me, I never thought anything about it one way or another. The lives of rock stars (like those of most other celebrities) are their own for the most part, and none of my concern. I suppose the exception would be where the music says something important about the artist or their life.

I always find late-life conversions to woo hard to swallow. It makes me think that the person must have been secretly a believer all their life and suppressing it for peer-pressure reasons OR that they just had a major psychological breakdown.

Otherwise, I can't imagine why anyone would want to give up sanity in favour of wilfully throwing themselves into bullshit.

I guess people are just too weird to fathom when it comes down to it.

I saw her in concert a half dozen or so years a go at The Iron Horse cafe. Real nice venue, small, intimate. After the show, often times the performers will stand near the exit, behind the stage, and shake hands with the fans, say a few words and such. Michelle did that, or started to, but something weird happened. This couple ushered their little girl over to her, and Michelle knelt down and spoke with the girl privately. It was really sweet. It was really sweet, that is, for like the first five minutes. Not quite so much after ten. And not really all that much after fifteen. And not at all after twenty.
We're all standing in line, waiting to pay our respects, and as the minutes keep going by, and going by, and going by, we're all kinda looking at each other wondering what the fuck is going on, and getting slightly annoyed. After about a half hour I just shrugged and gave up. Never did find out what the deal was with the little girl.

Singer Michelle Shocked's words about gays are coming back to haunt her.

By late Monday evening, hours after the spread of news about Michelle Shocked's anti-gay tirade at Yoshi's San Francisco, most venues on her national Short Sharp Shocked tour - including Los Angeles, Santa Cruz, Napa, Portland, Eugene, Boulder and Chicago - had canceled.

Mike Green, communications director of the Kings Place Music Foundation, under whose auspices she was to play in London, wrote to inquiring reader Lisa Woolf that they'd been in contact with her agent in Europe "and will speak with him as soon as possible, but it is very unlikely that she will tour again after what has happened. I must say that it's very unfortunate for all involved."

Cheryl Renee, who was said to have been Shocked's PR person, responded to an e-mail from The Chronicle saying that as of Feb. 25, "I am no longer working with Michelle Shocked. I cannot comment on her behalf and was not present at Yoshi's. ... I personally do not support the sentiment of what Michelle is being accused of saying."
