Well there is no formal organisation of popular music is there? Personally I separate 'serious' (popular) music as per the Beatles and those more interested in the music as an art form or means of expression to some extent from 'hard rock' where the energy, sexiness and grittiness seem to matter more.

My personal way of separating the likes of the Beatles, Kinks and the likes from Herman's Hermits and their ilk. Probably doesn't stand up to scrutiny now I think about it... :smug:

I love AC/DC. Bon Scott's vocals were great, but so are Brian's. Unfortunately for the Youtube generation, there are almost no videos with Bon Scott singing that have good sound.

I went to high school at the height of Back In Black's popularity, so you couldn't come within 2 miles of my school without hearing something from AC/DC playing on someone's radio.

For what it's worth, imo, It's A Long Way To The Top and Shoot To Thrill are better rockers. (Though my preference is for If You Want Blood (You Got It).)
I think my favorite AC/DC song is Whole Lotta Rosie, but not only is it Bon Scott, there are no good videos that I can find.
(I found one, but Angus' guitar breaks right before the solo, so he has to change guitars mid-song and the solo is thus borked.)

And though it's a Bon Scott tune, this is a good cover by Brian Johnson.

But I think all time best rock n' roll song goes to Led Zeppelin, one way or another.

I don't know about best, but it's up there. Pure fuckin' adrenalin. Definitely one of the best driving songs ever made.

If you like Rock, then believe it or not, these guys were one of the best and pioneering rock bands ever.

Heyeah, that's a ripper. Here's another one of my favourites, and it's from the same neighbourhood; rock with a Detroit Blues inflection, the Stones, and a guitar virtuoso. Incidentally, both Eric Clapton and Mick Taylor pretty much got their step up from John Mayall and his Bluebreakers.

The next 4 of my top 5 are all by the famous boy band from Liverpool.
This has to be up there I think.

Because I screwed up the link the first time:

These guys were (briefly) a Planet Striding Supergroup.

(They later became a comical sideshow - literally).

Great fun, but unfortunately, it hides their actual brilliance as a live (and incredibly loud) act.

I would love to have seen them!

I think the best thing about the band were Bon Scott's vocals.
Bon Scott was great - he could sing a nursery rhyme and it would sound filthy.... talent, that is. :razzle:

Great stuff.

I love Carlos Santana.

No one does a falsetto like Chris Cornell from Soundgarden (a band certainly influenced by AC/DC and Led Zeppelin).

Ben Shepard really plays awesome bass too.
