Sometimes big business/money hubris becomes a thing but most real innovations that break the mould emerge on a shoe string and from the basement. Spend that loan quick and repent at leisure springs to mind.

I don't use Spotify. I tried iTunes years ago. I'll jump on Pandora sometimes, other than that, and a few smaller apps, I only use YouTube online for music.

Have you discovered Bandcamp? There's so much great independent music over there made out of sheer enthusiasm.

I think I've followed a few links back to there. I like surfing kpft and Seattle's kexp playlist and shows for new music. For dub/dance reggae Kid Hops: Positive Vibrations in Seattle is something like an education...

Neil Young did not call for censorship. It was a public announcement that he was not going to share a platform with whatsisface, and he bloody well knew which way Spotisfy was going to decide. Everybody did. There simply are more clicks - that is more money - in keeping a popular podcaster than some pop musician who has been sliding from the peak of his popularity for half a century.

I think Young was motivated by money himself. Compared to other sources, royalties from Spotisfy don't amount to a hill of beans. His announcement generated a lot of attention in the media. This is bound to give sales of his music a lift, if only through oldtimers who suddenly realised that they have somehow lost their copy of "Harvest" or "Déjà Vu" and would very much like to listen to it again.

Stream from a HD at flac quality at home. A old 160gb apple mp3 player when out and about. CD music collection doubles as extra insulation whether too hot or too cold.

Rock was popular music, you cool with-it person. Also, some of Young's output, such as his collaboration with Crosby, Stills and Nash on "Déjà Vu" is too twee to be regarded as rock.

Not that "Harvest" could be labelled Rock 'n Roll either.

I'm kind of surprised at the lack of 5.1 DVD and bluray releases of new bands. Those would have to be physical discs, as 5.1 is too slow to download. You can send high quality FLAC over the internet. Presto sells classical that way:

This one is 10 dollars as mp3, 12.50 as FLAC
