Who have you just been to see?

Bands that is. Not your granny, or the dentist (unless they have a band together - in which case, them too! )

I went to see Pere Ubu tonight.

Pere Ubu are one of those bands that divide onions. Some people love them. Some people hate them. A few say, "Them? Are they still going? Fuck me!" and most say simply, "Who?"

I love them - have done since I first heard them in the late 70s. They once (tongue-in-cheekily) described themselves as Avant Garage - and, although they didn't mean it seriously, it fits as well as anything!

It was cool to see a band with a theremin player on stage. It was also cool to hear the lead singer (David Thomas) keep up a running commentary between songs about how everyone but himself were living in a dream and how, in the real world, they were the biggest band on the planet, selling billions of albums a minute!

Here's a taste - all tracks they played tonight...

Nice! And you can't go wrong with a theramin!

I really never go to concerts anymore, but recently saw Mike Nesmith, as I posted about.

It was a community orchestra playing Sibelius 2. French horns should have rehearsed more. OK otherwise.
