This a thrill for me:

Last week I found on You tube and downloaded a high definition version of Elvis' comeback concert in Hawaii. (1968) He was in his prime. I had forgotten what a superlative entertainer he was.

Could never see it myself. He may have been groundbreaking early on..and OK he had a voice..but he was so obviously cheesy.

I sort of met him once. I lived in a little town in Indiana that had one unusual feature, a full-blown recording studio. The Bill Gaither Trio owned the place, both brothers also taught at the local high school. If you're not into gospel music you've never heard of them, but they're hot in their own niche, and Elvis used them as backup singers in some of his gospel albums. Anyway, schedules required that recording be done during the school year, so Elvis came to the Gaithers. He hid out at their "estate" for two weeks, and on the last day in town he dropped by the school to thank Bill and Danny. Walked right into our classroom without knocking he did. Prat.

I rejected him in my teens just because of his icon status but his later stuff ended up growing on me. Suspicious minds is such a great song.

I think we got ripped off when the original singer was deemed "too Elvis". His voice was just as good as Mr. Presley's.
