Hadn't heard of a Zendrum before today...

It's essentially just a midi controller. You can play any midi instrument (say, a string instrument) on it, too.

What do you mean "You can play"?

You can assign any midi instrument to midi controllers;- Drums, flute, strings, woodwind...whatever.

Yeah, stuff like this is cool. I've got a friend with a MIDI pickup on one of his guitars; it's always fun to play, and pretty useful for recording.

Good stuff, bud.

Yeah, but would it actually sound like music when I did?

That depends on how it's programmed. That's what makes MIDI so powerful: you can assign values to each input and, by choosing those values carefully, make it such that anything played is sonorous. For instance, by making each input pad play a chord diatonic to C major, you can give non-musicians the ability to string together simple chords that, no matter what, will sound tuneful.

The only way I'd get music out of it is to have it programmed to make grilled cheese sandwiches or something.
