Wayne LaPierre has now invoked antifa, Berkley, George Soros, and socialism in his speech. Because apparently those are reasons not to do background checks on gun purchases.

You gonna come claim him, conservatives? He's all yours. This is what you have become.

The only power that really matters in Merica - corporate power - comes into play.

Florida shooting: Firms abandon NRA amid consumer boycott

Several US companies have cut ties with the National Rifle Association (NRA) amid calls for a boycott of businesses linked to the powerful gun lobby in the wake of the Florida school shooting.

The firms include car rental giants Hertz and Enterprise, which had offered discounts for NRA members.

The murder of 17 people has prompted renewed calls for tighter gun controls.

Florida Republican Governor Rick Scott has backed calls to raise the minimum age for buying a gun from 18 to 21.

Mr Scott has been widely seen as an ally of the NRA who has previously opposed stricter laws in the state. However, he has come under mounting pressure to respond to the demands of students who survived the shootings at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

How did the boycott come about?

Activists have tried to put pressure on the NRA since the shooting by targeting firms that offer discounts and other benefits to its members.

They have flooded its corporate partners with comments on social media under the hashtag #BoycottNRA. Firms under pressure include delivery company FedEx and tech giants such as Amazon, which distributes NRA television programmes.

Which companies have cut NRA ties?
On Thursday, the family-owned First National Bank of Omaha said it would not renew NRA-branded credit cards, citing "customer feedback".

Customer feedback has caused us to review our relationship with the NRA. As a result, First National Bank of Omaha will not renew its contract with the National Rifle Association to issue the NRA Visa Card.

Enterprise Holdings, which owns the rental car brands Alamo, Enterprise and National, also said discounts offered to NRA members would end on 26 March.

The firm, which announced the move in response to comments on Twitter, declined to say why it had taken such a step but told a customer that the firm doesn't "sponsor, endorse or take a political stance on any organizations."

We don’t sponsor, endorse or take a political stance on any organizations. We regularly review our discount offers and decide which ones continue to make sense for our business. Kind regards, Michael

Other companies distanced themselves from the NRA on Friday.

Those included MetLife Insurance, the Avis Budget Group, home security firm Simplisafe, two moving brands - Allied Van Lines and northAmerican Van Lines - and Symantec Corp which had offered discounts for its LifeLock identity theft product.

National Russia Association
Russian politician Alexander Torshin has methodically cultivated ties with leaders of the NRA and documented efforts over 6 years to leverage those connections and gain access deeper into American politics—including access to Trump, NPR has learned.

Almost nobody has, or can get, an assault rifle in the US. Under current law, the only assault rifles that are legal were manufactured before 1986. You have to be eligible to own a firearm generally, live in a state where an assault rifle is legal under state law, and buy one from exclusively from a Class III registered firearms dealer. To get a small assault rifle, the price, if you can get one, is around $12,000 to $16,000. I.e., assault rifles are for all intents and purposes, illegal in the US and have been for decades.

Except that the President has proposed an option that would include fewer guns. But why bother with accuracy.

As I understand the second amendment, everyone is allowed to be armed with whatever is able to defend against government, so, if government has guns that are bigger and bigger, then the citizens can have the same.

For myself (not a US resident) I would keep the means to defend myself handy. That means locks on my doors, weapons to defend against the most likely attacks (in my case that is pepper spray for dogs/bears/coyotes) and firearms skills maintained by hunting and participation in the gun range.

I think guns are kind of shit, though, against government. What I would really like to see is the 1st amendment sexually ravage the 2nd amendment, and make a baby which is truly arming the people against government tyranny.

So a twitter, but with an anonymous 'channel', and guaranteed for every citizen.

Let them write AND shoot against tyranny. Right now, there are few places which honour free expression (because it is FUCKING hard to stand behind, I think)
